Our Deepest Sympathies

We are sending our deepest sympathies to John Mlacak’s family.  He passed away suddenly on September 19th.

John was a Gallery Artist since 2009 and we proudly displayed his unique Quebec landscape and townscapes.  Take a look at his artist page to view  his beautiful and lively paintings.

The Ottawa Citizen also wrote an article about his passing and highlights his significant role in the community.

We are truly saddened to hear about John’s passing.  It was a pleasure to be able to showcase his talents at Gallery de Boer.

Gallery de Boer is pleased to announce our upcoming exhibit “Ecstatic-Scapes” by Alan Glicksman opening September 12 and will run until October 31st.

Canadian painter Alan Glicksman has a highly expressive creative energy that encompasses his paintings.  His Abstract Expressionist style focuses on the mythical and mysterious beings from his inner and outer worlds.

Glicksman left the busy Toronto scene in 2005 and moved to Owen Sound where he found the rugged landscape and endless water his new inspiration.  He does “en plein air paintings in the field and will later create large canvases in his studio that capture the same essence.
Alan feels Sometimes I express my inner world – birds, beasts, humans. Sometimes I express the outer world – trees, flowers, sky. Sometimes the two worlds merge into lively bursts of energy.”

Throughout his long artistic career Alan has achieved various accomplishments and has been highly praised for a fresh original approach, a powerful palette of spellbinding colours and for capturing the spirit of what he is experiencing.   Alan studied in Toronto and New York City at The Ontario College of Art and Design, at the University of Guelph and the University of Toronto.

The exhibit at Gallery de Boer – Fine Art called “Ecstatic-Scapes” features a glimpse of Alan’s artistic career over the past twenty five years.  It showcases a wide variety of works that highlight Glicksman’s unique perspective on expressing his honest and personal artworks. The show features earlier works along with re-worked paintings created within the last year.  With the wide variety of stylistic interpretations from Glicksman, there is a piece for everyone. The show offers unique original artwork for everyone’s budget. This is a great opportunity to add to your personal collection with a piece from a distinguished Canadian abstract painter.

There will be a special opening reception on September 12 from 6-9pm. Please join us for refreshments and meet the artist. Please R.S.V.P to this event.

NEW UPCOMING EXHIBIT – Keira McArthur #Selfie

Gallery de Boer – Fine Art is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition ‘#Selfie’ by Keira McArthur, on display in the main gallery from June 20th – August 1st.

This exhibit follows Keira’s journey as she explores her own discomfort with the growing popularity of the ‘selfie’ movement on social media sites.  Keira states “I squirm when I see people of all ages and stages of like taking solo selfies and posting them, in all their vulnerability.  I see awkwardness, pain, sadness, exhaustion, lack of self-awareness, longing – all of which I have personally experienced in my own life.”

The exhibit features a variety of paintings of Keira’s hands and figure in a variety of poses. She feels she needs to face her own discomfort and discover a sense of self.  She has set 5 rules for her ‘Selfie Pilgrimage’ including posting photos of herself on social media sites, generate discussions about the selfie practice, paint as she explores deeper into her own thoughts, and finally, write and perform music that relates directly to the work.

There will also be a booklet accompanied with the show that will showcase Keira’s entire ‘Selfie’ journey.  The booklet will compile the social media comments and discussions, the selfie images, and the discoveries she makes as she embarks on an awkward yet redeeming experience.

Gallery de Boer is pleased to be the first venue to showcase this meaningful exhibit presented by Keira as she begins a new chapter in her artistic career.  This will be the first public viewing of the ‘Selfie’ artworks and we encourage you to take the time to visit the show and reflect on your own thoughts.

The Performance:

Keira incorporates written text and musical performance into her exhibitions.  The ‘Selfie’ exhibit will feature a short performance art piece  which will explore the idea of ‘subject’ and ‘object'; performer and audience, isolation and tribe.  It will feature the voices and musical skills of Keira and her fellow colleagues.

We invite you to join us for the opening reception on Friday, June 20th from 6 – 9 pm AND/OR Saturday, June 21st from 1-4 pm with an artist talk starting at 2 pm.

This is an evening not to be missed!
